PATH is leading a vibrant consortium of Zambian and international organizations that will collaborate closely with Zambia’s MoH, the NTP, the private sector, and other partners to support the eradication of TB in Zambia.  Funded by USAID and focusing on six of Zambia’s 10 provinces, the five-year Eradicate TB project aims to increase the number of individuals screened for TB by 50% and increase the TB treatment success rate to 85% in targeted provinces. The four key tasks of Eradicate TB are to:

  • Pursue high-quality DOTS expansion and enhancement
  • Address TB-HIV, MDR-TB, and the needs of poor and vulnerable populations in six provinces
  • Engage all categories of care providers
  • Enable and promote operational research

PATH is seeking a Key Populations Specialist to work closely with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the National TB Program (NTP) to develop and build capacity in TB programming for key populations such as prisoners, children, miners and People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). This position will report to the Deputy Chief of Party.


  • Design and implement TB programs targeting vulnerable populations, including prisoners, miners, women, children, and PLWHA.
  • Participate in designing, development, adaptation, finalization and revision of TB, and TB/HIV training packages with a focus on vulnerable populations, including prisoners, miners, women, children, and PLWHA.
  • Develop strategies for increased case in the congregate settings(Correctional facilities)
  • Provide mentorship to staff from both TB and ART clinics in Intensified TB case finding in PLHIV and HIV screening in presumptive TB and TB patients, Co-morbidity case management, Recording and reporting and Operationalization of IPT guidelines
  • Support the provincial teams to hold quarterly TB/HIV coordination meetings at provincial and district level
  • Coordinate and collaborate with relevant personnel in the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Mines, Ministry of Home Affairs and other TB partners in order to ensure project goals and objectives are met.
  • Provide linkages with local partners to ensure improved programming targeting vulnerable populations and increasing demand for services.
  • Build capacity within a strong technical team to address the needs of vulnerable populations
  • Increase political commitment related to vulnerable populations
  • Provide guidance and support to Provincial teams in development of annual work plans that are in line with Ministry, donor and project priorities
  • Represent the project and PATH on the National Technical Working Groups (TWG) and the Prison Health Advisory Committee (PHAC) and report back to project leadership on outcomes of the meetings
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Required Skills

  • A diploma in a Health sciences with Five (05) years of relevant experience in TB control.
  • Master’s degree in Public Health will be an added advantage
  • Experience working with Key Populations for TB programming.
  • Ability to conduct trainings, post training follow-ups, supportive supervisions and build capacity in TB control, including DOTS,TB/HIV collaboration and IPT implementation using the Ministry of Health standard training packages.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and maintain schedules for deliverables with excellent attention to detail.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills to facilitate relations with the Government and local partners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, negotiating and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure to perform.
  • Familiarity working with international organizations is preferred.
  • Valid practicing license with relevant professional body
  • Must have legal authorization to work in Zambia
