Job Description

WE ARE HIRING FOR A NEW COMMUNITY RADIO STATION

Kalumbila, North Western Province
(Station Manager, Producer, Finance/Admin and Technician)
We are seeking driven, creative and experienced individuals to manage a soon to open
modern radio station.

1. Radio Station Manager

Job Overview:
As the radio station manager, you will be expected to supervise the daily operations of the
radio station. Duties include coordinating and managing administrative and operational
activities, offering the support necessary to deliver the station’s 24-hour radio programming
and constant evaluation of operational processes to ensure compliance and adherence to the
station’s overall mission.

Responsibilities:
 Adhering to broadcast standards and complying with broadcast laws and regulations
 Maintaining accurate records, regularly preparing and communicating reports
 Managing day-to-day operations, including station inventory and supplies, safety and
security, and space allocation/utilization
 Actively participating in defining short and long-term goals, policies, and procedures;
monitoring all activity to identify necessary changes
 Maintaining a diverse staff, adhering to the station’s mission; delivering assignments;
recruiting, scheduling, and training staff; resolving employee concerns
 Coordinating community volunteer program
Necessary Skills:
 Broadcast sales, sales management, and mentoring experience, with a proven track record
of success in the radio industry
 Knowledge of Zambian broadcasting regulations
 Experience with inventory management, promotions, and collections
 Leadership skills, including training, coaching, delegating, and motivating staff
 Passionate and goal-oriented, particularly toward sales, sales training and education, and
client relations
 Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences
 Knowledge of on-air and remote broadcasting processes, public radio principles,
procedures, operations, and standards
 Knowledge of fiscal management principles; ability to define short- and long-term goals
and develop/manage strategies
 Ability to operate radio station equipment
 Knowledge of current radio trends

Qualifications:
 Diploma in Journalism, Mass Communication or a related field
 Bachelor’s degree in a related field will be an added advantage
 At least 5years experience in a similar position

2. Radio Station Broadcast Technician

Job Overview:
As the radio station technician, you will be expected to install, adjust, test, maintain, and
repair mobile or stationary radio transmitting and receiving equipment and two-way radio
communications systems. You will also be expected to monitor performance and determine
causes of faults while offering the support necessary to deliver the station’s 24-hour radio
programming and constant evaluation of operational processes to ensure compliance and
adherence to the station’s overall mission.

Responsibilities:
 Install and operate all equipment, such as audio mixing consoles, media control systems,
oscilloscopes, frequency analysers, and satellite receivers, used to broadcast
radio programs.
 Operate transmitters to broadcast radio programs from studios and remote locations
 Maintain equipment to ensure that it functions properly
 Quickly and effectively troubleshoot problems with transmissions
 Conduct functional and operational testing procedures to ensure quality performance of
broadcast products.
 Work with engineers to test and integrate new systems.
 Use computer software to edit audio and video recordings
 Comply with broadcast laws
Necessary Skills:
 Excellent communication skills to work seamlessly with the rest of the team.
 Problem solving skills to enable you to perform the task of troubleshooting and solving
equipment and signal problems.
 Strong manual skill and hand-eye coordination to enable you to set up and use equipment.
 Excellent computer skills are also essential for programming equipment and editing video
and audio recordings and other tasks.

Qualifications:
 Full grade 12 certificate
 Diploma in Telecommunications or Technical Engineering
 At least 3years experience in a similar field

3. Radio Station Finance/Admin Officer

Job Overview:
As the Finance & Administration Officer, you will be in charge of managing the financial and
administrative systems, procedures and operations as well as providing strategic advice on
financial and administrative matters.

Responsibilities:
 Maintain external relationships with service providers to ensure the efficiency of the
office systems, supplies, premises and equipment
 Oversee logistics and other administrative tasks required
 Take care of bookkeeping and administration of invoices and accounting documents
in adherence to existing accounting practices and standards
 Work with the Station Manager to prepare accurate financial reports for the Board at
specific deadlines
 Ensure compliance with regulations (internal and donor-related) for safety,
procurement of goods and services and record-keeping
 Develop appropriate financial systems and tools
Necessary Skills:
 Experience in book-keeping and accountancy
 Proficiency in use of software systems: Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and
accountancy systems.
 Ability to put in place and implement internal financial control systems and tools
 Previous practice in managing procurement of goods and services
 Know-how in managing an office facility
 Experience in managing payrolls and other employment and social measures.
Qualifications:
 Full grade 12 certificate
 Diploma in Accounting or Finance related field
 Degree in Business Administration is an added advantage
 At least 3years experience in a similar field

Radio Station Producer

Job Overview:
As the Producer, you will be expected to plan, rehearse, and produce live or recorded
programs. You will also be responsible for the audio content of broadcasts via radio, the
internet and other mobile platforms to deliver the station’s 24-hour radio programming.
Responsibilities:
 Generating and researching ideas for programmes and pitching for commissions
 Developing content, writing material for scripts, bulletins and links
 Sourcing potential contributors and interviewees
 Selecting music appropriate to the programme, the audience and the station
 Producing pre-production briefings for presenters, reporters, technical staff and other
contributors
 Managing the logistics of getting people, resources and equipment together at the
right place at the right time
 Undertaking editing, interviewing and reporting duties as necessary
 Presenting programmes or managing presenters for both pre-recorded and recorded
output
 Checking that copyrights are cleared and understanding media law
 Converting text, graphics, video and audio files into other formats
 Contributing to, and making use of, an archive of audio resources which can be reused
 Responding to audience feedback, referring on to other departments as necessary
 Producing and making use of user-generated content
 Using technology, such as cool edit pro, pro tools and adobe audition, for editing and
production purposes
 Ensuring that health and safety standards and trade union requirements are met.
Necessary Skills:
 Excellent written and oral communication skills
 Ability to work as a part of a team and also independently
 Good organisational skills and an ability to cope under pressure
 An awareness of current affairs and good general knowledge
 A willingness to embrace new technology and learn technical skills
 Self-confidence, persistence and determination.

Qualifications:
 Full grade 12 certificate
 Diploma in Journalism
 At least 5years experience in a similar field
