CHIEF FINANICAL OFFICER
KSM MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT, the largest HR firm in Zambia recently acquired GOZAMBIAJOBS.CO.ZM, becoming the largest recruitment platform in the country is now actively looking to recruit for a Chief Financial Officer on behalf of our client in the Insurance industry.
About The Role
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for providing strategic financial leadership, ensuring financial stability, and overseeing all financial operations, including financial reporting, regulatory compliance, budgeting, and risk management. The CFO will play a key role in driving financial performance, optimising capital management, and ensuring the company’s adherence to both local and international accounting standards, including IFRS 17.
Key Responsibilities:
- The CFO’s performance will be evaluated based on the following key areas: a) Financial Strategy & Planning – Developing and executing financial strategies to support business growth and sustainability.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance – Overseeing accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with IFRS 17 and regulatory requirements. Preparing financial performance and management reports to support decision-making. Ensuring compliance with statutory reporting requirements and leading the development of financial data processing and reporting systems. Reviewing departmental activities monthly and provides management with performance reports.
- Risk & Capital Management – Managing financial risks, reinsurance, and capital adequacy to maintain company solvency.
- Budgeting & Cost Control – Establishing budget guidelines, preparing the overall budget of the company in a timely manner with consideration to high quality standards. Driving cost efficiency and ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Financial Controls – Managing cash flow and forecasts to minimise financial risks and meet expenditure commitments. Ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies in financial record-keeping. Developing and maintaining internal financial controls to ensure accuracy, integrity, and regulatory compliance.
- Treasury & Investment Management – Overseeing liquidity, investments, and asset management to optimise returns.
- Asset Management – Supervising the management of the company’s asset inventory to enhance value for money to the company, and to minimise on asset related risks.
- Policies: Developing financial policies and procedures and gaining the approval of the board to ensure the approved policies are aligned to the strategic direction of the company.
- Operational Efficiency & Technology Integration – Enhancing financial processes through automation and best practices.
Specific Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
- Financial Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement the company’s financial strategy to drive growth and profitability.
- Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to the CEO and Board of Directors.
- Align financial planning with overall business objectives, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
- Financial Reporting & Compliance
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in compliance with IFRS 17, IAS, and local regulations.
- Oversee statutory and regulatory financial reporting to the Pensions and Insurance Authority (PIA) and other relevant bodies.
- Coordinate external audits and liaise with auditors to ensure smooth audit processes.
- Risk & Capital Management
- Develop and implement risk management strategies to protect company assets and ensure financial stability.
- Ensure adequate capital management in line with regulatory solvency requirements.
- Oversee reinsurance arrangements to optimise risk transfer and financial performance.
- Budgeting & Cost Control
- Lead the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor financial performance against budgets and recommend corrective actions where necessary.
- Implement cost control measures to enhance operational efficiency.
- Treasury & Investment Management
- Oversee cash flow management to ensure the company meets its liquidity needs.
- Manage investment portfolios to maximize returns while ensuring compliance with investment guidelines.
- Maintain relationships with banks, investment managers, and financial institutions.
- Operational Efficiency & Technology Integration
- Drive financial process automation and implementation of modern financial management systems.
- Enhance reporting efficiency and data-driven decision-making.
- Ensure integration of finance operations with digital insurance platforms.
Technical Skills and Key Competencies:
- Strong leadership and strategic thinking abilities.
Strong knowledge of IFRS 17, insurance financial regulations, and tax laws.
- Expertise in financial modelling, risk management, and investment analysis.
- Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management.
- High integrity and commitment to corporate governance.
- Ability to work in a highly regulated environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- A master’s degree in finance or business administration is an added advantage.
- Certifications: ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Must be a member of a recognized financial body.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the insurance or financial services sector.
