Job Description

AAZ is seeking a skilled Cost Accountant who will be responsible for performing cost analysis and preparing budget reports.

This role reports directly to the Assistant Manager Financial Planning and Analysis.

Location: The role will be primarily based in Siavonga at our Production plant.

The Right Fit candidate will be responsible for;

Cost Analysis

  • Building updated databases and managing cost information to help maximize the company’s profitability,
  • Combining different data and performing calculations of profit margins,
  • Creating detailed reports to present cost-effective solutions
  • Calculating and proposing fixed costs
  • Building data accumulation systems
  • Reviewing company’s standard and actual costs and report any inaccurate data
  • Retrieving cost information and managing company’s expenses databases
  • Performing planning of variable costs (such as material purchases and operations costs)
  • Creating budgeting reports for different company’s departments and present them to senior management
  • Reviewing profit margins and preparing reports on the results
  • Creating cost forecasts on monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Organizing month-end and year-end closing activities
  • Developing cost-effective solutions and presenting them to senior management

Inventory Management

  • Responsible for maintaining accurate stock listings;
  • Facilitate and participate in monthly and annual stock counts;
  • Perform monthly stock reconciliations of physical counts against system for all categories of inventory and highlight variances to the management;
  • Assist in developing and implementing inventory policies and procedures;
  • Report shortfalls and surplus inventory, weekly and monthly for replenishment;
  • Ensure that goods received by warehouse/stores are matched with the actual invoices from the suppliers;
  • Reconcile stock deliveries with purchase orders and or agreed contract terms, and raise non-conformity reports where applicable;
  • Ensure that finished goods dispatched to the customers are matched with the actual invoices issued to the customers;
  • Coordinate with warehouse team to implement and ensure a control system to reduce damage, breakage and inventory obsolescence;
  • Support accurate and timely financial reporting through ensuring all stock data is updated correctly;
  • Manage the monthly financial close process for all categories of stock;
  • Ensure proper records and classification in terms of cost and quantity of all inventory items; Finished Goods, raw materials, spare parts and other consumables;
  • Ensure stock ledger entries are properly coded and classified;
  • Carry out spot checks on stock balances in the Stores warehouse as against the system records to capture any anomalies; and
  • Assist Finance Operations in other relevant tasks as assigned

The Cost Accountant Must Have:

  • Full ACCA or CIMA
  • 3+ years’ experience of working on a Cost Accountant, Cost Analyst, Accountant or similar position
  • Significant experience with accounting procedures
  • Excellent knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Good practical experience with accounting software, such as Navision
  • Good level of computer literacy, particularly with MS Excel and the entire Microsoft suite
  • Strong analytical and time management skills, with close attention to detail
  • Productivity, responsibility and ability to handle confidential information

Technical Skills/Competencies

  • Computer literate with hands on experience in use of Navision software;
  • Good understanding of stock-related operational and control requirements;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Team player with good communication skills;
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision; and
  • Person of high integrity and self-discipline;
