MABOSHE FARMS
A small and ambitious family farm is looking to fill the position of Farm Manager. The Farm Manager will be central to driving the growth of the farm to become a commercial operation. Key competencies and experience required of the suitable candidate are given below:
Farm Manager Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Operational Responsibilities – Cropping
- Building a strong and reliable team of labourers able to aid profitable production on the farm
- Manage, organise and supervise farm labourers
- Aid in operational planning of day to day tasks on the farms
- Aid with crop planning and effective crop rotation
- Aid with strategic planning on the farm which will include, bush clearing and farm expansion programs
- Knowledge and experience in the effective and efficient growing of crops for sale is expected
- Manage and facilitate the procurement of cropping supplies
- Manage the monitoring and consumption of cropping supplies
2. Operational Responsibilities – Livestock
- Build a strong and reliable team of labourers able to aid in the sustainable and profitable rearing of livestock on the farm
- Ensure livestock are adequately cared for
- Ability to implement appropriate livestock rearing techniques to prevent disease and avoidable livestock losses
- Manage, organize and supervise workers caring for livestock
- Knowledge and experience in the effective and efficient rearing of livestock is expected
- Manage and facilitate the procurement of livestock supplies
- Manage the monitoring and consumption of livestock supplies
3. Equipment Management Responsibilities
- Knowledge of the use and basic maintenance of the following equipment and vehicles is expected:
- Tractor
- Tractor trailer
- Planter
- Boom sprayer
- Disc plough
- Disc harrow
- Truck
- Van
- Tractor driven maize sheller
4. Desired Personal Attributes
- Self Driven
- Strong employee supervision skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Able to work with minimum supervision
- Ability to resolve problems
- Ability to manage and train employees
- Ability to communicate effectively using a variety of communication tools including email, whatsapp video calls and messages
- Ability to prepare comprehensive management reports detailing the performance of the different areas of the farm
5. Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma/Degree in agriculture related field
- Demonstrate ability to meet above requirements
- Valid driver’s license
- At least 3 traceable references
- Previous working experience is an added advantage
