About The Role
The Legal Officer will support the company’s debt recovery operations by managing legal actions related to collections, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, and representing the firm in legal proceedings. The role requires close coordination with collections, compliance, and external counsel to maximize recoveries while minimizing legal risk.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle legal matters related to debt recovery, including pre-litigation, litigation, and post-judgment processes
- Draft, review, and issue legal notices, demand letters, pleadings, affidavits, and settlement agreements
- Represent the company in court, tribunals, or before relevant authorities (where permitted by law)
- Liaise with external lawyers, courts, bailiffs, and regulatory bodies
- Advise internal teams on legal risks, recovery strategies, and compliance requirements
- Ensure all collection activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards
- Maintain accurate legal records, case files, and status reports
- Monitor changes in laws and regulations affecting debt recovery and advise management accordingly
- Support negotiations and settlement discussions with debtors or their legal representatives
- Assist in developing and improving internal legal and compliance processes
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB or equivalent) Bar admission or practicing license
- 2–5 years of experience in debt recovery, litigation, banking, financial services, or collections-related legal work
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, contract law, and debt enforcement mechanisms
- Experience handling high-volume legal cases is an advantage
