MINE PLANNER
Purpose of the Job
Prepare short term, medium term and long term mine plans, compile and interpret statistical data for future planning purposes in order to improve company profitability by enhancing mine planning techniques and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Mine Planning and Scheduling:
- Prepare Mine Plan and Short-Term Schedule effectively, accurately, and timely;
- Prepare Medium Term Mining Schedule effectively, accurately, and timely;
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of;
- Drill design
- Blast design
- Reconciliation of drill and blast performance
- Mining Schedule
- Economic analysis of mining activities
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of:
- Medium Term mining designs and lay-outs; and
- Short Term, Medium-Term, Long-Term Mining designs and lay-outs.
- Conduct mine projects in other areas the company wishes to
2. Reporting:
- Update data as per required format; and
- Establish and Maintain short term Mine Planning Data Repository;
3. Safety and Health:
- Adhere to all laid down Safety, Health and Environmental standards, practices and procedures;
- Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, contractors and customers to adopt safety as a culture; and
- Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in the work place
4. Team Supervision:
- In liaison with the Head of Mining Operations (Mine Manager), provide input to staff performance appraisals, identify performance gaps and draw up staff development plans in order to improve performance;
- Provide supportive supervision, mentorship and technical assistance to the junior members of staff;
- Ensure all workers are trained and competent to perform their duties safely and productively at all times;
- Monitor attendance of staff;
- Monitor mine productivity and
- Carry out work studies.
Required Qualifications
- Grade 12 Certificate;
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering from a reputable Institution;
- Master’s Degree is an added advantage;
- Must be a member of Engineering Institution of Zambia;
- Must possess a Blasting Certificate;
- Must possess a First Aid Certificate;
- Must possess a Driving License;
- Computer Literate (MS Word/Excel) including other Mine Planning Software;
- Surpac Software proficiency is required and ;
- Data Mine proficiency is required
Experience, Knowledge and Abilities
- A minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience in a similar role and
- Knowledge of open pit mining methods and Mines and Minerals Act and Mining Regulations and Explosives Regulations;
- Knowledge of Land and Environmental Regulations;
- Communications skills – (Oral and written);
- Analytical skills and problem solving skills
- Supervisory Skills;
- Time Management, planning and organizing skills;
- Able to coordinate and also work in team;
- Able to operate safely and maintain and promote safe production;
- Able to supervise , motivate and people provide engineering support to all team members as required;
- Able to maintain attention to detail;
- Able to use mine design, planning and scheduling software;
- Maintains confidentiality, honesty and Integrity and;
- Mature; and self-confident.
