ROLE: INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS OFFICER

 

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide support to the Human Resources department and to ensure a harmonious working environment for all employees, in order to achieve the Company’s mission.

MAIN DUTIES

  • Assist employees and management with queries and requests
  • Answer and forward calls within the Human Resources Office
  • Use discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Advise management on all matters that involve conflict between employees
  • Work to improve communication, cooperation and planning in the HR Office
  • Work with management on the staff evaluation process, receive and file evaluations from department supervisors
  • Assist in the development of Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Employee Relation, labour protocols, operating procedures and handbooks
  • Maintain and follow Human Resources policies, regulations and procedures related to the function, rights and responsibilities of all staff
  • Ensure that all staff members are aware of the Industrial Relations and Employee Relations protocols and regulations and that employees have access to the relevant handbooks when needed
  • Work with the Human Resources and departmental Supervisors with respect to disciplinary action required, including preparation of documents, investigation of any offence, scheduling hearings, and attendance at hearings
  • Ensure the wellness program for staff is clearly documented and that staff are aware and regularly updated of the resources available to them
  • Ensure continuous revision, internal training and updates are provided on various IR and ER and recent case law and that this is conducted regularly across all levels of staff and where necessary coordinate external training on relevant matters
  • Work with the representative union and management in managing conflict between parties and employees
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements with the representative union and management
  • Assist in the organization and induction of new staff on the code of conduct, HR and IR protocols and operating procedures during orientation
  • Assist with the process of Exit Interviews
  • Perform general administrative duties for the HR Office which may include filing

 

ACADEMIC AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • BSc/BA/BBA/Diploma in Human Resources Management/ Social Sciences or equivalent plus valid practising license with three (2) years relevant experience
  • Grade 12 School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) ‘O’ Levels

 

WORK EXPERIENCE/COMPETENCIES/ ATTRIBUTES

 

  • Knowledge of Labour laws and Legislation
  • Good understanding of Collective Bargaining/Negotiation process
  • In-depth knowledge of performance management
  • Good understanding of the Disciplinary and grievance procedure
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good Analytical skills
  • Interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Networking skills
  • Broad Understanding of Manufacturing Industry
